Too long of a name, so we are going to call this the 4000. The 4000 is an extremely popular sound machine made by Homedics. This unit incorporates 6 sounds and a projection alarm clock. Every photo we have seen of this unit makes it look big. It’s really quite small and light (see below).
Sounds The sound quality is very good for a machine this size. While models like the SU7 have a separate ‘waterfall’ and ‘white noise’ selection, the 4000 only uses waterfall. This confuses some, because it is actually white noise. You can’t hear any bubbling water or the like. The other sounds are Rain Forest, Ocean, Thunder, Summer Night and rain. The ocean sounds are continuous waves and sea gulls. We didn’t care for the rain forests as it sounds like it’s raining too. Makes sense we guess, just didn’t like it. The thunderstorm is best at a lower volume like other machines in the price category. The white noise (waterfall) has a very nice tone to it. We were unable to detect the splice.
This unit allows you to wake to beeping, nature sounds or radio. You can wake to a different sound from what has been playing on the unit as you slept.
Projection Feature This is a very nice feature of this unit. You can turn the projection feature off and it can be rotated 180- degrees so you’re not trying to tell what time it is upside down if the clock is facing you. The focus is very good. The numbers are clear. They are a little bright and we would like to see a dim feature on the projection portion as it is on the main clock face. At about 5 feet, the numbers are about 6” tall.
Alarm Clock The alarm clock does not take an expert to set. There is no dual alarm feature.
Stats Length: 6.75” Width: 7.25” Height: 2.50” Weight: 1 lb. Decibels (at 18” full volume): 82 db
Verdict This is a very good sound machine with some very nice features. We wish it had a dual alarm. We are giving it 4 stars based on the unit’s popularity and features. Some sounds just could have been better.
